Home/Insights/In-home vs clinic ABA

In-home vs clinic ABA therapy: which is better for my child?

Short answer

Neither setting is better for every child. In-home ABA teaches skills where they are used, builds parent coaching into daily routines and removes travel. Clinic ABA offers a controlled space, peer groups and specialised equipment. Many families combine home sessions with school or community practice. The right choice follows the child's goals, age and family schedule.

When in-home tends to fit

  • Toddlers and preschoolers whose goals are communication, play and daily living.
  • Behavior that mainly happens at home: sleep, mealtimes, transitions, safety.
  • Families who want to learn the strategies, not just outsource them.
  • Teens and young adults working on independence in the kitchen, the neighbourhood and on transit.

When a clinic tends to fit

  • Goals that need structured peer interaction several times a week.
  • Homes where there is no quiet space for sessions or where working parents cannot be present.
  • Specialised equipment or a team of several clinicians on site.

How Evergreen Pathways works

We provide in-home and community-based ABA, with telehealth for parent coaching and supervision when it fits. If a clinic setting is the better fit for your child, we will say so during the assessment.

Common questions

Will the therapist be in my house all day?

No. Sessions are scheduled blocks that fit around school, naps and family life. The plan lists the days and hours.

What do I need to have at home?

A space where your child plays, and the toys and routines you already have. Technicians bring materials for specific programs.

Can in-home ABA include school?

With your permission the BCBA coordinates with school staff so goals and strategies match. Direct sessions inside school depend on the district and the plan.
