Parent questions

Straight answers to what families ask before, during and after starting in-home ABA with Evergreen Pathways.

Who is Evergreen Pathways for?

Children, teenagers and young adults ages 2 to 22 with autism or another developmental disability for which ABA is recommended, living in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston or Kitsap County, Washington.

Do I need a diagnosis before I call?

No. Call first. To start ABA under Apple Health your child will need an evaluation and ABA order from a Center of Excellence provider; we will explain how to get one and get your child on our list while you wait.

Where do sessions happen?

In your home and in your community: the park, the grocery store, the bus. Telehealth is available for parent coaching and some supervision.

How many hours a week will my child have?

It depends on the assessment, your child's age and goals, and what your family can sustain. The BCBA recommends hours, your plan authorizes them, and they are reviewed as your child progresses. There is no fixed number.

Who will be in my home?

A behavior technician runs most sessions, under the close supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who assesses your child, writes the plan and coaches you. Ask us about credentials, background checks and supervision at any time.

Will it be the same person each time?

We aim for a consistent technician because consistency helps children. Ask us how coverage works for sickness and holidays.

Do you take Apple Health?

Evergreen Pathways is listed in the Health Care Authority's Apple Health fee-for-service ABA provider directory. If your child is in a managed care plan or a commercial plan, call us and we will check your benefits before anything starts.

How long is the wait?

Call and ask; it changes with openings for your child's age and area. Washington's Health Care Authority advises families to get on more than one provider's list.

Do you speak my language?

Ask us. Tell us which language your family speaks at home and we will tell you honestly what we can offer, including interpreters where needed.

Is ABA play-based?

For young children, sessions are built around play and daily routines because that is where the skills are used. For older children and teens, practice is built around real tasks: a real recipe, a real bus route.

What if my child has a bad day during a session?

That is information, not failure. The technician follows the behavior plan, keeps everyone safe, and the BCBA uses what happened to adjust the plan.

Can I stop or change services?

Yes, at any time. You approve every goal and you can ask for a change, a different technician or a pause.
